The region is not characterized by large areas with denomination, therefore also GIs follow the logical zoning in leopard spots. Two important areas are distinguished in that one (province of Pavia) is a natural extension of Oltrepò Pavese and the other (province of Mantua) is dedicated to Mantuan Lambrusco DOC, with the specification in this case of its sub-zones of Quistello and Sabbioneta, which are really distinctive with respect to the rest of the Mantua area, especially for Lambrusco. Probably with reference to this dominant vine there was no need for this GI, perhaps in this solution is not extraneous the influence of the nearby Emilia.
