EMILIA ROMAGNA

The two most popular denominations are Emilia and Rubicone, which seem to mirror the two distinct territories making up the region.

Lambrusco dominates the Emilia GI (the data in table 5.12 takes into account the consistent downgrading from DO), reason for which the bottling has been obtained in the area, while in the Rubicone GI Trebbiano romagnolo b. prevails, followed by minor quality whites, such as Chardonnay b. and reds, whose main exponents are Sangiovese n. and Barbera n.

Other minor GIs respond to local needs linked to private companies and cooperatives in the area or to the usual parochialism of the southern part of the Via Emilia.

Two historical white indications, victims of the Pignoletto DO, are regressing rapidly: Bianco di Castelfranco Emilia and Bianco del Sillaro.
