The main GI is the homonymous Tuscany which has represented, besides what has been said in general about the real meaning of GI in Italy, also a very interesting test bench to experiment alternative solutions to the crisis of Chianti which has been evident for some decades.

This has generated the birth of the famous Supertuscans aimed at enhancing the value of Sangiovese n. in combination with the varieties of the classic Bordeaux blend.
