The recent approval of the sub-zones in the Montepulciano DO has thinned the list of regional GIs which remains relatively important in the two provinces with a strong cooperative presence: Chieti and Pescara.
The correct removal of the name Montepulciano n. from these GIs has characterized their nature as areas of valorization of recently rediscovered vines (Pecorino b., Passerina b., Cococciola b.) or of origin from other regions (Pinot Grigio gr., Chardonnay b), consolidating their function of launching new DOs (the one for Pecorino is on its way).
